The new school year is here! Although we will be starting in a distance learning model, we are hopeful that students will be back in the building before too long. It’s important for families and students to know that our distance learning model this fall will be quite different from the distance learning in the spring. In short, there will be much more accountability. We will have daily attendance expectations and grading will be back to normal. Students will be engaging with their teachers and peers much more regularly. One major change this year is that we will be in a 3 x 3 block schedule. This means students will take three classes per semester (90 minutes each day), and they will earn three credits in a semester and six credits per year. We decided on this model so students will have fewer classes to monitor and teachers will have fewer students at a time so they can develop better relationships. More information will be provided on structured daily schedules in the next few weeks. To create a strong foundation for our distance learning model and the necessary family partnerships and student relationships, teachers and staff will use the first seven days of the school year to meet with families and students through Zoom to discuss their personal schedules and needs, to assess student social, emotional and academic needs and to provide initial educational engagement lessons/activities.

Parents, guardians and students can now access the Schoology Learning Management System. Please use the Getting Started with Schoology guide to set up your account and support your child signing into Schoology. When setting up your parent/guardian account, please use the access code that was sent to you. Once you login with one child’s access code, you can enter additional student access codes to your account to see all of your children’s information in one place. The Schoology set-up video will guide you through that process.

For additional resources, technology help, and translated materials, please visit our Technology Family Resources page on our website under the Students and Families tab. Your child’s courses will appear in Schoology the first day of school, Sept. 2. Schoology will give families the most up-to-date information about assignments and classroom resources.

Schoology will not replace the Qmlativ Family Access Portal. Families will still access the most current information about student grades and attendance in Family Access. Middle and high school students’ schedules will be posted in Family Access by 4 p.m. on August 28th. For secondary school students, please note that counselors continue to refine schedules, so you may see some minor adjustments to your class schedule by the start of school next week.

More importantly than ever, it’s critical that families engage in your child’s education. We need your help to ensure success for every student. We are committed to improving our communication, and we want to hear from you as well. Soon, the Mukilteo School District will have an app which will allow you to access everything related to school on your phone. We’ll also be sending messages and information through this app. More information will be available on this new app soon.

Looking forward to the start of the year! Together, we’ll make this the best year we possibly can for our students.

     Nate DuChesne - Principal
